Univ. Prof. Cosmin Alin POPESCU, PhD

Having a training in the field of geomatics, especially in the field of cadastre and remote sensing, directions that underlie his academic career, Prof. S. A. Popescu further conducted in-depth research as a result of which he was granted a doctoral title in Agricultural sciences in the specialization Pedology. He started his university career as a preparatory trainer in 1998 at the Banat’s University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine “King Michael I of Romania” from Timișoara where he completed all the university degrees, currently being a university professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering.

Since 2012, he has been involved in university management, as the dean of the Faculty of Agriculture. In 2016, he was elected Rector of the Banat’s University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine “King Michael I of Romania” from Timisoara, a position he still holds today, having relevant concerns in the development of Entrepreneurial Research and Internationalization.

As a co-owner of PROCAD, he coordinates business activities in the fields: cadastre, topography, urbanism, road infrastructure design, urban works design (water-canals), digital archiving services and specialized technical consulting. In these areas of ​​competence, he coordinated extensive engineering projects as a project manager, at regional and national level.

Both in university management as a dean and later as a rector of the University, as well as in business planning within the company PROCAD, he aimed to develop and focused on the principles of leadership enhancing the importance of communication and teamwork, as the basis for developing a sustainable entrepreneurial and institutional activity.

In the official position of a rector representing the university on the national and international level in numerous delegations, he supported the principles of regional, national and international development based on sustainability in terms of social, economic and environmental protection.

In support of this aspect, one of the academic degrees obtained by Prof. C. A. Popescu is Environmental Engineering from the Banat’s University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine “King Michael I of Romania” from Timisoara.

The concepts of participatory management applied at institutional level were substantiated by obtaining a degree in Company Management at the West University from Timisoara, and the basis of technical training in geomatics was consolidated through a bachelor’s degree in geodetic engineering at the University from Petrosani.

The consolidation of the accumulated practical and theoretical knowledge was further enhanced through subsequent specializations completed both in the country and abroad, which represented a foundation for the academic and entrepreneurial pursuits.
